Modern Furniture Making Course in The Hague!

What does a Modern Furniture Making “Do it yourself” course actually entail? In this course you immerse yourself in the art of furniture making with materials that you can simply find at the hardware store. While professional furniture makers have access to advanced machines to process raw wood into usable parts, we focus on a practical approach for the home. During this course you will learn to work with materials that are easily available, such as furniture boards, MDF and plywood. Moreover, the editing techniques we teach can be directly applied in your own workspace.

We offer a basic design that combines various processing and joining techniques. But depending on your level and creativity, you can customize this design to your own taste. For example, add a door, a drawer or decorate it with a veneer layer.

What are you going to learn?

  • Safety in the workshop
  • Drawing up a design and processing plan
  • Working with power tools: cross-cut saw, jigsaw, plunge saw or circular saw, router and drill
  • Getting to know different types of wood connections (lamello / domino, miter)
  • Various finishing options such as veneers

After following this course, you will not only have a self-made piece of furniture, but also the knowledge and skills to get started with, for example, a built-in cupboard or sideboard for your home!

router

A router is a hand tool with a rotating router bit located above the workpiece. It is used for processing wood, plastic and sometimes metal by making various operations such as grooves, rounding edges and producing decorative profiles.

Track saw

A plunge saw with guide rail is a tool that allows you to make precise cuts by starting the saw blade in the center of a material. The guide rail provides stability and precision during sawing, allowing for clean and consistent cuts.

jigsaw

A jigsaw is a handheld power tool used for cutting curved and straight lines in various materials, such as wood, metal, plastic and drywall. It works by means of a rapidly reciprocating saw blade that moves vertically up and down. This allows users to cut quickly and accurately, making it ideal for creating recesses, curves and other shapes that a straight saw cannot accommodate.

festool domino

In addition to joining wooden panels, the DOMINO joining system can also be used to easily and quickly create not only butt window frames and frame joints, but also miter joints that furniture makers and carpenters often encounter. The DOMINO combines the properties of a flat dowel (flexible and rotation-resistant) with those of a normal round dowel (fixable and very sturdy).
